Here you can see the impressive result of 125 years worth of hydraulic engineering skill. The two locks with four different lock gates and a former economising basin, Hotopp lifter and the machinery house are all evidence of the lock’s development. The lock keeper’s house of the northern lock in Kersdorf is a listed monument and home to an exhibition with information about the history of the Oder-Spree canal. The information is illustrated using display panels, historic documents and a video. Film recordings allow for an insight into the life of shippers, hydraulic engineers and lock keepers on the canal in 1925.

Visitors can learn about the eventful history of the facilities of the waterway, parts of which are among Brandenburg’s oldest canals that are still in use. A model of the lock in 1904 at a scale of 1:20 is also on display, which is on permanent loan from the Deutsches Technikmuseum Berlin foundation. Visitors can also read the foundation stone certificate issued by Emperor William I. The Federal Waterways and Shipping Authority welcomes all those who wish to see and experience hydraulic engineering achievements.
