The Kleist Museum is dedicated to the life and work of the poet Heinrich von Kleist (1777-1811), who was born in Frankfurt (Oder). The inauguration of the "new house for Kleist" on October 17, 2013, with the support of the European Union, the German federal government, the state of Brandenburg and the Kleist city of Frankfurt (Oder), marked the successful conclusion of years of struggle for a modern museum extension. On now more than doubled exhibition space we present Rätsel. Struggles. Breaks. The Kleist Exhibition. In the new temporary exhibition rooms, we regularly invite visitors to interesting exhibitions on the reception of Kleist as well as to literature, art and history exhibitions of our partners. The new building houses the most comprehensive documentation on Heinrich von Kleist and his literary-historical environment, with over 100,000 holdings in the library and collections. As a cultural memorial of national importance, the Kleist Museum is listed in the Federal Government's Blue Book.

The Kleist Museum was established in 1969 in the building of the former Garrison School as a Kleist memorial and research facility. In the modern, light-flooded and spacious museum extension opened in October 2013, which was placed alongside the beautiful baroque individual monument, there are now finally appropriate storage and significantly improved presentation facilities for the more than 34,000 holdings in the library and collections - currently the most comprehensive documentation on Heinrich von Kleist and his literary-historical environment. The museum remains committed to the legacy of the poets Ewald Christian and Franz Alexander von Kleist as well as Caroline and Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué. As a cultural memorial of national importance, the Kleist Museum is listed in the Federal Government's Blue Book.

In the unique ensemble of buildings, consisting of the late baroque Garrison School (1777) and a light-flooded new building (2013), the Kleist Museum presents the life, work and influence of Heinrich von Kleist (1777-1811) in the city where he was born and studied. As a literary museum of national importance, it presents in the interactive permanent exhibition "Riddles. Struggles. Breaks." it not only presents Kleist's life in its historical context, but also provides personal access to his unique language and turbulent biography. With special exhibitions and a varied program of events, the house regularly offers something new for young and old.

In the museum's garden, with sculptures from the collection and historical traces, it is possible to relax with a view of the Oder River before or after visiting the exhibitions. Located directly on the Oder-Neisse Cycle Path in downtown Frankfurt (Oder), the Kleist Museum is easily accessible by train, bicycle or on foot and is an ideal starting point for excursions in the surrounding area. The neighboring town of Słubice is a few minutes' walk away and invites you to explore the German-Polish Euroregion.
