In the 1980s, the Weißensee School of Art acquired the manor house and adjoining buildings so that it could organise trips and exercises in a range of specialist subjects for the students. Following German Reunification, there was close cooperation with the Academy of Arts. After extensive restoration work and the modification of the castle, Sauen is now a venue for all the Berlin schools of art. It is used for trips, workshop events, readings and concerts. The close collaboration between the August Bier Foundation and the schools of art and their students provides a creative basis and an opportunity to tell the students and teachers about the Foundation’s aims and to spread its ideas and its work.
