Reichenow Palace is a beautiful pearl of Neo-Gothic architecture that has remained entirely in its original form as envisaged by its patron August Freiherr von Eckhardstein when he had it built between 1897 and 1900 according to plans by the architect Hauer. He was inspired by the typical English aristocratic residences of the Tudor period – which is easy to spot if you look closely at the architecture. The palace would be a wonderful backdrop for historical films: since it has been preserved without any alterations, it is an outstanding example of this era in Brandenburg. This architectural style was first seen around 1834/35 with Schinkel’s construction of the Babelsberg Palace and became widespread in Prussia during this period. The two-storey plaster-walled building with its high base made of granite quarry stones features projecting loggias, balustrades, corner towers and crenellations – giving it the appearance of a small fairy-tale castle. The original structure of the rooms has been completely preserved: in some, even the floor coverings and the wall and ceiling panels are original. The kitchen still has the original wall tiles, too.

The palace is idyllically situated at the end of the village of Reichenow with its adjoining estate and the landscape park at the Langer See lake, the architecture harmonising perfectly with the water and natural surroundings. The palace blends smoothly into the hilly surroundings on terrain sloping down to the lake, with the park to the east and south, and provides a superb view of the open countryside. The landscape park was created between 1900 and 1904. The natural lay of the land was integrated in the overall landscape architectural planning, echoing the extraordinary harmony of all the natural elements.

The Lange See can be circumnavigated on a relaxed hike. A hotel has been set up in the palace, which invites you to visit a restaurant or to spend the night. There are also some interesting art workshops in the manor house buildings.

Year of construction: 1900 – 1904
How to get there: Car: B158 and 168, and the L33
