Bomsdorf was the only village in the region that was never owned by the Neuzelle Monastery. The circular village, or “Rundlingsdorf”, was first mentioned in documents in 1310. For over 400 years, it was the seat of the highly respected von Bomsdorf family of nobles. The manor frequently changed ownership over the centuries. The last owner was Kurt von Kunow, who died in 1936 and is buried in the adjoining estate park.

The manor house underwent considerable alteration throughout the centuries. A new Baroque estate castle was built in the 18th century, which was remodelled in the Classic building style in the 19th century. The former moat surrounding the manor house was filled in the 20th century, which led to the rapid deterioration of the building. Today, the manor house has been restored to its former glory. It is also affectionately known as “the Castle”.

The adjoining park with its precious stock of trees, numerous little ponds and burial ground of the family of knights is a wonderful place to spend time.
