In the 18th century, the town of Alt Madlitz and, at the same time, the Baroque three-storey manor house with hipped roof was taken over by Karl, Count Finck von Finkenstein.

Modernisation of the manor house started in 1780. Shortly before the invasion by the Red Army in 1945, the last occupants of the castle fled to the West and the manor was confiscated. And so, after the end of the war, the park, along with all the plants in it, was left to its own devices. But the manor house, which was used to house refugees for 40 years, was showing cracks in the walls and was not cared for or maintained. The Finck von Finkenstein family was faced with a vast quantity of work once they had bought back the manor.

With the help of the Düsseldorf architect, Walter Brune, the Alt Madlitz Castle was unveiled in all its glory in 1997, after extensive restoration work, making the entire village more attractive. 

Today, the manor house is occupied privately by Karl Wilhelm Count Finck von Finkenstein, and is thus not open for viewing. However, to the delight of visitors, the extensive landscape park is open, with signposts and an information panel at the entrance.
