Enjoy a crossing on an electrically operated passenger cable ferry that is unique in Europe. Since 1894 it has connected the town centre to the forest area “Jenseits des Sees”. The ferry draws its traction current from an overhead line. This type of drive system is unique – and one reason why the StrausseeFähre is considered a technical monument. The 350-metre long crossing takes about 7 minutes. Up to 100 people can enjoy a unique view of Strausberg’s historical townscape during the trip.

For the summer timetable (March 15 to October 31), the StrausseeFähre crosses the river from the town side to the forest side every 30 minutes starting at 9:20 a.m. The last crossing from there is at 5:30 p.m., during the summer holidays at 7:30 p.m.

For the winter timetable (November 1 to March 14), the StrausseeFähre operates every 30 minutes on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 9:20 a.m. (town side) to 4:30 p.m. (forest side). Ferry traffic is restricted in the event of unfavourable wind conditions, however.

The fare for a return trip is Euro 3,40, for a single trip Euro 1.70 (Euro 1.20 for children). Registered groups of 10 persons or more receive a discount of 20% per person. Tickets are sold directly on the ferry. Severely disabled persons with a free ticket for local public transport travel free of charge. Both the fares and the general conditions of transport of Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg (Berlin-Brandenburg public transport system) apply. The VBB rate is not valid.

The ferryman or ferrywoman always has a cup of coffee ready for the cold or exhausted hiker – and mulled wine in winter.

The StrausseeFähre is associated with the Strausberg registry office so it can be hired for weddings, too. It is also available for business trips, private parties and moonlight trips.

Cashless payment is possible on the spot.
