The summer residence of the young prince
Continue readingcollapse
The castle and gardens in Altlandsberg were the country seat of the High President of the Privy Council, Baron Otto von Schwerin. Furthermore, the property owned by Otto von Schwerin served as a summer residence for the young prince and subsequently for King Frederick I. Otto von Schwerin was his teacher.

Demolition and reconstruction

The municipality lost its importance during the reign of Frederick II (1740–86). Once the castle had burned down in 1757, Frederick II had it demolished and the reusable building materials were sent to Köpenick to what is now Berlin. Only the castle church was rebuilt using the preserved portals and old masonry from the castle. Today it is an art workshop for church windows. The gate pillars, foundation walls, vaulted basement and overgrown park are still a reminder of the former castle area. There are also preserved farmyards and craft workshops from the 18th and 19th century in the municipality.
