A beautiful, natural section of the River Spree lies between Lake Wergensee and the Oder-Spree Canal, near the Kersdorf Lock. The “Drahendorfer Spree”, as it is called, winds in tight curves through the densely wooded landscape. To control the water level, there is a weir and a lock at the branch level with Lake Wergensee. The historically listed structure with its needle dam was comprehensively restored in 2019, after operating for over 100 years.

Now, along with a lock for sports boats, the weir system also incorporates a fish passageway – the longest in Brandenburg at the time of completion, at 109 metres. The lock is a listed chamber lock. The lock is remotely operated by the competent shipping office using cameras.

Location: River Spree 106.5 kilometres

Chamber length: 10 metres, chamber width: 2.5 metres

The weir has a clear width of 13 metres and a drop of 1.5 metres.
