It was converted into a chamber lock in 1640. This lock was particularly important for the Rüdersdorf limestone deposits.

Around 1850, 15,000 to 16,000 ships passed through the Woltersdorf lock to transport up to 216,000 cubic meters of limestone.

Construction of the current lock system was completed in 1884.

Until 1959, the road bridge consisted of a two-part bascule construction with a mechanical lifting drive and a pedestrian bridge in front of it. This wooden bridge was then replaced by a simple bascule bridge with a hydraulic drive and a steel footbridge.

The high pedestrian bridge can now be used to watch boats passing through the locks, while the raised bridge allows cars to wait.
