The Woltersdorf lock connects the waterways of Berlin with the lakes of Rüdersdorf.
The first dam was built in 1556. In 1640, this was converted into a chamber lock. This lock was of great importance for the limestone deposit of Rüdersdorf. Around 1850, 15000 to 16000 ships passed the Woltersdorf lock transporting up to 216000 cubic metres of limestone. The construction of the lock system as it is today was completed in 1884. Until 1959, the road bridge consisted of a two-part swing construction with a mechanical lift drive with a pedestrian bridge at the front. This wooden bridge was then replaced by a simple bascule bridge with hydraulic drive and a steel footbridge. Now you can observe the boat locking operations from the high pedestrian bridge while the cars wait by the raised bridge.
