Situated in the middle of an almost mid-mountain landscape with valleys and steep slopes, the spa town of Bad Freienwalde is not only a true oasis on the outskirts of Berlin, but also an ideal starting point for excursions into the surrounding area such as the Oderbruch, the Barnim, Märkische Schweiz, the Uckermark and the historic Neumark on the other side of the Oder. Today's visitors can rediscover what the Prussian electors and kings appreciated about Bad Freienwalde: Between winding alleyways, historical monuments and green hills, the 800-year-old town proudly boasts a lively art and culture scene.

Bad Freienwalde has been able to call itself a spa town since 1684 - the oldest in the Mark Brandenburg. The moor mined on the outskirts of the town is still a highly effective remedy today.

Incidentally, the great Brandenburg traveller and poet Theodor Fontane was a frequent and popular visitor to the town. His judgement was short and to the point: ‘Freienwalde - a beautiful word for a beautiful place’!

The Bad Freienwalde Tourist Information Office will be happy to help you organise a stay in the Bad Freienwalde/Oderbruch region.
