The spa town of Bad Freienwalde is located in a hilly area with valleys and steep slopes. It is a true oasis of tranquillity just outside Berlin and a great starting point for trips into the surrounding areas such as the Oderbruch region, the Barnim district, the Märkische Schweiz region, the Uckermark and the historic Neumark region on the other side of the Oder river. And of course hiking enthusiasts will also get their money's worth here!

The Prussian electors and kings appreciated Bad Freienwalde, and today's visitors love it just as much: this 770-year-old town with its winding alleyways, historical monuments and green hills is proud of its vibrant art and culture scene.

Bad Freienwalde has been using the title of spa town since 1684, making it the oldest spa town in Mark Brandenburg. The marshland plants which grow just outside the town are considered a highly effective remedy to this day.

The great hiker and poet Theodor Fontane from Mark Brandenburg loved our town and often stayed here. He observed briefly and to the point: "Freienwalde – Hübsches Wort für hübschen Ort"! (Freienwalde - a pretty word for a pretty place)  And of course Fontane's 200th birthday will be celebrated in grand style in Bad Freienwalde.

The tourist information centre of Bad Freienwalde will be happy to assist you in organising your stay in the Bad Freienwalde/Oderbruch region.
