Length: 34 km (day trip), 55 km (loop)

Start: Lübbenau Castle

Destination: Fürstlich Drehna Castle

Getting there:
  • Public transportation: From Berlin Hauptbahnhof, take the RE2 regional express to Lübbenau
  • By car: From Berlin, take the A13 highway to the Lübbenau exit

Departure:

For the return trip, we recommend turning the 34-km leg into a 55-km loop back to Lübbenau.

Route: Lübbenau, Luckau, Fürstlich Drehna

Directions: Exploring the castle gardens of the Spreewald is best done by bike. There are numerous impressive and magnificent castles in this region.

The tour begins at Lübbenau Castle Park. The park, laid out in the English landscape style, was created around 1820. The castle ponds, moats, paths, and bridges were constructed around 1850. Mature trees, green meadows, and fragrant plants make the park a natural idyll.

The next stop is Luckau: The city park there, designed by Inge and Heinz H. Eckebrecht, was redesigned in 2000 for the State Garden Show (LAGA). Spacious meadows offer visitors plenty of greenery not far from the historic city center. A highlight for children is an imaginatively designed water playground in the city park.

The next stop on this leg of the route is Fürstlich Drehna: The jewel of the town is its castle park, which was redesigned as a landscape park in 1819 with the collaboration of Peter Joseph Lenné. The park features a wide variety of trees and shrubs. With its bridges, waterways, and undulating layout, it is a masterpiece of 19th-century Romantic garden design.
