The Spreewald turns wonderful colours after the gherkins have been harvested. In autumn, fields and gardens of the Burg dispersed settlement are filled with huge, colourful pumpkins. The pumpkin is one of the oldest cultivated plants on earth and is more diverse in its varieties than virtually any other fruit. The emperor of the garden is not only delicious, it is also healthy – and it adds a delightful touch of autumn colour to the Spreewald landscape. This bicycle tour takes you past typical Spreewald log cabins and numerous pumpkin fields. Take a trip to the herb garden to admire special ornamental pumpkins, and try the pumpkin schnaps at the distillery – the Hofbrennerei in Burg.
