Fish are essential to the Spreewald. There is a wide range of species that are indigenous to the region, not only in the Spree itself. Numerous ponds have been specially designed for the breeding of carp, pike, zander, perch, catfish and trout. Between Lübben, Schlepzig and Krausnick in the Unterspreewald, there are not only several production plants that benefit from the rich yield but numerous restaurants situated in the area, too. They are able to offer guests fresh fish caught nearby. You can enjoy a meal in one of the inviting dining areas or in fine weather on terraces offering views of the lakes and the River Spree. The area is becoming increasingly popular among cyclists.
