The village church of Tauer was built as the sub-church of Peitz from 1789 to 1790 on the initiative of Johann Friedrich Schmidt, a schoolmaster and court clerk who also raised a considerable amount of money for this purpose. The church was refurbished in around 1840: some of the windows were redesigned to give them an ogival shape, and the tower received its present form with a large lantern.

In the 1980s the organ gallery was enlarged and raised to make room for a place to hold services in winter underneath.

The pulpit altar is a particularly important feature: it has a basket that is said to date from around 1600, though its origins are unknown. Another valuable item is the small organ dating from 1852, built by Christoph and Wilhelm Schröter from Sonnewalde.

A service is held here in Wendish on Whit Monday every year.
