Shooting of the detective films ‘Spreewaldkrimis’ has been taking place in the original location since 2006. The naturally mystical meadow and wetland scenery of Spreewald Forest with its many streams, is unique in Germany and it captivates visitors time and time again. The landscape of this unparalleled inland delta that is part of the UNESCO biosphere reserve, is part of the ZDF production’s brand image. The stories are just as intricate as the network of Spree streams. Regional peculiarities also feature in the ‘Spreewaldkrimi’ episodes.

Shooting locations include Burg im Spreewald, the town Lübben, the traditional inn Wotschofska in the Hochland woodland that is surrounded by streams, and the town Lübbenau. The town is home to a castle where guests can even stay overnight. It goes without saying that visitors to Spreewald Forest can also opt to simply enjoy the incredible landscape by bike, punt or canoe.

In addition to the detective films, a few scenes of the feature film ‘Four Minutes’ were shot on Kasel-Golzig Castle on the edge of Spreewald Forest near Lübben, a few years ago. Hannah Herzsprung and Richy Müller played leading parts in the 2004 drama. The team of the German-American production ‘The Reader’ from 2008, featuring Kate Winslet, Ralph Fiennes and David Kross, also came to Spreewald Forest. They shot a few scenes at the prison in Luckau-Duben.
