The pond landscape north of Stradow comprises nine ponds and four smaller basins on a total area of 50 hectares. The man-made aquatic landscape was created around 1900. Up to this point, the site had been covered in marshy meadows. The ecological quality of the site that is now part of a special conservation area is particularly noteworthy. It is home to white storks and cormorants, as well as grey herons, ospreys and sea eagles, various types of duck and swans. The song of the fire-bellied toad can also be heard frequently.

The popular Gherkin Cycle Path goes through the heart of the pond area, providing for a tranquil connection to Spreewald Forest.
