The castle island in the centre of Lübben is almost six hectares big and the main river Spree runs around it. It is a green place for children and adults to recreate, and an attractive setting for events. Winding, accessible paths and plenty of seating allow visitors to enjoy quiet spots and creative playing sites, such as the sound garden and the maze. At the heart of the castle island, there is a big aquatic playground with a man-made waterfall, a slide, wooden rafts, streams, locks and child-sized excavators. At the entrance, the information centre ‘Spreewald-Service Lübben’ presents the town’s tourist offerings, and there are also sales booths, snack bars and a mini-golf facility.

From the Spree harbour in town, the typical Spreewald punts depart on tours around town and Spreewald Forest. A bridge connects the island with Lübben Castle and the local history museum. The longest bridge in Spreewald Forest is 107 metres long, and it connects the castle island with the bathing area SpreeLagune.
