The Cottbus Postkutscher (Cottbus coachman) was a legend in his own lifetime: on their evening tours through the historic city centre, the coachman and the Baumkuchenfrau (“pyramid cake lady”) explain why the stagecoach lies broken down under the tree, why “Schweinehunde” hop over a wall in the Wendish district – and the more than one thousand Meißen tiles showing life in the Spreewald. If the coachman happens to be away, his place is taken by the Cottbus Baumkuchenfrau, who has lots of stories to tell about the “Baumkuchen” – a delicious type of pyramid cake that is typical of the city.
