The Trough Tour begins at the so-called Luisenhof or Landambulatorium – another of Lieberose’s historic buildings. This was once the post office of the Royal Saxon Chamber Commissioner of Trierenberg; during the GDR period the complex was used as a hospital. On this 6-kilometre long hike you can wander through a wide variety of landscapes such as low wetland moors and ground moraine.

It also touches on other historic sites around Lieberose. Next to the cemetery is the concentration camp memorial with museum – an artistically designed burial site for 577 prisoners who were murdered when Lieberose secondary camp was closed. As you continue you will pass the so-called Franzosenkanzel: this was used as a base by Napoleon's army in preparation for the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig.

Passing through fascinating landscapes that alternate between pine forest and wet lowlands (Fleischerluch, Krähenluch), the path continues along the B168 through the ground moraine region past Scharraths Berg, sheep herds and pens, the mill river and a deer enclosure before finally returning to the town.
