Hike to the 488-hectare nature reserve Stockshof-Behlower Wiesen, a deciduous forest that is to be left to develop entirely naturally. Numerous wild plant species are to be protected here such as liverwort and heath spotted orchid, as well as various bat species and songbirds such as the lapwing, whinchat and kingfisher, and amphibians such as the tree frog and large mussels. At Stockshof there is a castle wall you can visit that was raised by human hand more than 1,000 years ago. It is also referred to as the “Altes Schloss” and once served as a refuge for the Illyrians and later the Slavs. In spring, the forest floor is covered with white and yellow anemones (wood anemones).
