The local history museum in Dissen presents an exhibition of how Sorbian/Wendish farmers once lived and worked. It includes exhibits and pictures showing farms, the hard work done in the fields and what children’s lives were like, as well as giving an impression of the festivals, celebrations and many other vibrant customs. The 20 variations of traditional Lower Sorbian costumes are a special attraction here. Legends and fairy tales of the Spreewald provide insights into the region’s myths and sagas, as do spinning room stories.

Visitors can touch many of the exhibits, so the museum can be fully “grasped” in the truest sense of the word. The museum holds numerous events where both children and adults can get actively involved: these include fairy tale and handicraft afternoons, Sorbian Easter egg decorating sessions and Stork Tours. Poet and storyteller Pittkunings sometimes appears at the museum, too.
