The Haus der Heimatgeschichte Calau is a local history museum that houses a special exhibition on the town’s most important luminary, Carl Anwandter (1801-1889). The pharmacist and politician lived in the pharmacy named after him in Cottbuser Strasse. In 1850 he moved to Valdivia in Chile, where his name is kept alive to this day. In addition, Heimatverein Calau e.V. (Calau local history association) provides information on interesting aspects of Calau's history at special exhibitions held on a regular basis.
