Calau local history museum is housed in the former girls’ school, a half-timbered house dating from 1789 located in the immediate vicinity of the town church. It houses many historical objects relating to the history of the town and region, including excavation finds from early history and from urn fields, guild objects from Calau’s craft trades and documents of important regional events and postal history. Of particular interest is the furnished shoemaker’s corner, where the work of the numerous shoemakers is impressively documented.
