‘Stary lud’ is part of the local history museum in Dissen. It is part of a Medieval Slavic settlement that was reconstructed based on regional and supra-regional interpretations and findings. Visitors are taken on a journey across time. The little hamlet comprises five pit houses that seem as though their residents have just gone out to work in the field: The weaver’s loom is threaded, dyed wool and clothing has been hung up to dry, a semi-finished pot is waiting on the potter’s work bench, little offerings have been placed in the sacred grove, and smoke is still rising from the blacksmith’s fire pit. It is a peaceful time, and the weapons and chain mail shirt have been stowed away in the warrior’s house. Visitors to the pit houses can see the items that were essential to families about 1,000 years ago.
