The flooding of the former open-cast mine in the north of Cottbus has started. The lookout tower near Cottbus / Merzdorf allows a wide view of the emerging Baltic Sea, the future largest lake in the state of Brandenburg with 1,900 hectares. 173 steps lead up to the 31 m high viewing platform. The lookout tower can be reached by car via the B 168 towards Peitz and B 168 n towards Forst. Parking spaces for cars and buses are available directly at the tower.
