One day, this place will be home to a 400 hectares big lake! The process to flood the hole left by the former opencast lignite mine Jänschwalde was started in 2000. Flooding will be complete in 2030, and the entire area will be turned into a pristine local recreation area.

At the covered viewpoint, visitors can enjoy impressive views of the lake whose water level is rising year by year. The long-distance cycle paths ‘Fürst-Pückler-Radweg’ and ‘Niederlausitzer Bergbautour’ go past the viewpoint, making it a good place to take a break during a bicycle tour. Parking is available for those arriving by car.

Further attractions nearby include the open-air museum Zeitsprung, the robber knights’ fortress and a recreated burial mound.
