You start your journey through tranquil nature by going south towards Zenssee, after which you will reach the idyllic Platkowsee. The left shore is a nature reserve, so disembarking is not permitted here! You will return the same way, but not all the way to your starting point on Oberpfuhlsee, but to the jetty on the transfer spot by the shepherd’s meadow. Here you need to carry your canoe across the street to the town lake. Depending on your level of fitness, you can now decide which way to go. You can either turn right towards the smaller lakes Nesselpfuhl and Wurlsee at the end of the lake, or you can go straight ahead to Großer Lychensee. The quiet little river Woblitz branches off the south-western shore of this lake. From Nesselpfuhl, the boat can be returned to the starting point on Oberpfuhl on a boat trailer.

Length/duration: 15 kilometres (1 day)

Depending on your mood and fitness, the tour can be varied from 5 km to approx. 25 km.

Start/finish: Oberpfuhlsee Lychen

How to get there/return journey:
  • By public transport: Take the RE5 (Rostock) to Fürstenberg/Havel from Berlin central station (Hauptbahnhof). From here, take bus no. 517 to Lychen (about 2 hours).
  • By car: From Berlin via the A111 and B96 to Lychen (about 1.5 hours).

Boat rental: Treibholz Lychen, Bootsstation Reiherhals, Bootsvermietung Tisch

Stops on the shore:

  • Lychen: Rafting Museum, early Gothic granite church St John's, Art gallery Kunstplatz Lychen
  • NSG Platkowsee: lovely hiking trail along the lake shore
  • On the north-western shore of Großer Lychensee: Branch of Uckermark Fisch GmbH with freshly smoked fish
  • Various culinary offerings in Lychen

Waterway profile:

  • Zenssee, Platkowsee, Oberpfuhl, Nesselpfuhl & Wurlsee: No motor boats permitted
  • Zenssee and Platkowsee: Very little boat traffic, ideal for wildlife watching
  • There are bathing areas at Oberpfuhl, Wurlsee and the eastern shore of Zensee, and a lido at Großer Lychensee
  • Boats must be carried from Oberpfuhl to the town lake
  • Boat passage to transfer the boats like canoes from the Nesselpfuhl to the Oberpfuhl lake and vice versa - the passage leads under the imposing mill building in the center of the village
