In 1754, a Mecklenburg glassmaker built his "green forest glassworks" here at Lake Densow-See and named the place Annenwalde (Anna's Forest) in honour of his wife Anna-Margarete. Glass was produced in the Uckermark until 1865, when the glassworks were closed, and only in the year 2000, with the help of the European Union and the State of Brandenburg, did it prove possible to open another glassworks in the village of Annenwalde with its strong glass-making tradition.

This is where glass designer and sculptor Werner Kothe, who specialises in fusing glass technology, works today. In addition to demonstrations, events and a sales gallery, there are also courses for beginners to learn the fusing technique.
