7 kilometre long Wolletzsee is just outside the town Angermünde in the Uckermark. It is surrounded by forested hills and located on the edge of the Schorfheide-Chorin UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The hiking trail is particularly diverse: steep shore areas on the edge of mature beech forests alternate with a wide range of meadow and field landscapes. Wolletzsee is 18 metres deep and fed by the river Welse. The clear water makes it ideal for bathing, scuba diving and fishing.

Length: 16 kilometres, 4 to 5 hours

Start/finish: Strandbad Wolletzsee (lido)

Logo/route sign: Green dot on a white rectangular background

How to get there/return journey:
  • By public transport: From Angermünde train station (RE3 and RB66) you can walk or take bus no. 452 to Strandbad Wolletzsee. The BiberBus 462 operates from April until the end of October, going from Angermünde train station around Wolletzsee, via Kerkow, Görlsdorf, Wolletz and Altkünkendorf.
  • Those wishing to start walking in Angermünde can follow the Märkisch Overland Trail (blue cross on a white background) towards Templin (about 3.5 kilometres on foot)
  • By car: A11, junction Joachimsthal, then via the B198

Route: Lido at Wolletzsee, Gehegemühle, Altkünkendorf, Wolletz, lido at Wolletzsee

Route description: The route starts at the lido at Wolletzsee in southerly direction. You walk through Angermünde’s town forest to the spring Adlerquelle, then on through deciduous forest and meadows until you reach the dirt track lined with chestnut trees that leads to Altkünkendorf. The trail goes past an idyllically situated rest area on the top of a hill that is perfect for a picnic. The neo-Gothic village church in Altkünkendorf is worth a visit, and so is the World Natural Heritage Site Grumsin Beech Forest information point.

We walk on in northerly direction, past Heiliger See Lake, across the river Welse and on to Wolletz. Below the hunting lodge in Wolletz, the path along the lake shore will take us back to the lido. The Welse valley starts three kilometres from Wolletz. It is characterised by its interesting moor and wetland forests. Those who have not used the various bathing options along the way, can take a dip at the lido at the end of the hike.

Points of interest:

  • Altkünkendorf: Village church, World Natural Heritage Site Grumsin Beech Forest information point
  • Lido at Wolletzsee

The tour can be combined with the following other routes:
