In 1996, a little attraction – a roofed viewing platform called the Kaiser-Manöver-Terrasse – was built on the Pappelberg in the village of Güterberg. It provides an unforgettable view across the broad, varied landscapes of Uckermark, Mecklenburg and Western Pomerania.
The historic background is that it was built as a memorial to the largest of the Imperial Manoeuvres (the ‘Kaisermanöver’) from September 11 to 13, 1911 in Uckermark and Mecklenburg, which were led by the Emperor himself. From the Pappelburg, the arbitrators could follow the movement of the troops. Legend has it that, in the battles for the Pappelberg, the manoeuvre decision was given by order.
