The local history museum in Brüssow is located in a former Old Lutheran church that was built in 1859 and used as a place of worship until 1915. At the initiative of local residents from Brüssow, the church was turned into a local history museum in 1964. After more than 50 years, the museum has a comprehensive collection from the area’s pre and early history. There are also exhibits from the areas of crafts and trade, and a minute book by the men’s choir with information about 40 years of community life in the town up until 1938. Various photographs document life in town from this time through to the present day.

The museum’s advisory council is particularly dedicated to a reappraisal of local history. The museum was redesigned in 2009. At this time, a special exhibition was set up in the museum that was related to the building’s historic background. The exhibition is dedicated to the issue of emigration of Old Lutherans from Brüssow and the neighbouring towns to America in 1843. Visitors can view copies of documents referring to the events at the time, and learn about the preparations for leaving Brüssow and the local villages, and the first steps towards settling in the USA. Visitors from the US can seek information about their ancestors and close gaps in their family history. A cooperation agreement with the German Heritage Museum in New Bergholz, NY (USA) near the Niagara Falls was concluded on October 27, 2018. The two facilities are now partner museums.

The entrance is located on the left side of the building.
