The local history parlour in Warthe is prominently located in the former blacksmith’s shop on the central village green. The village has an elongated shape and is arranged around a main road. The blacksmith’s shop was operated by the master blacksmiths Schmöker (father and son) from 1885 until 1960. In 1960 it was taken over by the Agricultural Production Cooperative then closed down eleven years later. It was then used as an additional school room, until the village school in Warthe was also closed.

The local history parlour first opened on the occasion of the village’s 700th birthday. The former blacksmith’s shop is home to museum exhibits, as well as a little library. Visitors can see documents of village life and souvenirs of the Templin-Vorstadt-Fürstenwerder railway that also went through Warthe. The railway line was built between 1910 and 1912 and only used for passenger and freight traffic from 1913 until 1945. Complete disassembly of the tracks started in June 1945 for war reparations. With its stops in Fährkrug, Knehden, Metzelthin, Warthe, Hardenbeck, Krewitz, Weggun-Arendsee and Parmen, the railway line was temporarily an important factor for economic development in this part of the Uckermark. Large parts of the newly created “Stone Trail” cycle route can now be used comfortably. Over the next few years, a continuous connection between Fürstenwerder and Templin will be completed on the old railway embankment. It is always a good idea to take a little break in Warthe to catch your breath and visit the local history parlour.
