The lock in Schwedt/Oder is located on the Schwedter Querfahrt crossing and it is a chamber lock. It compensates for the different water levels of the river Oder and the Hohensaaten-Friedrichsthaler waterway. The lock was taken into operation in 1924. It is of vital importance for the ice breaking concept of the Waterways and Shipping Office Eberswalde: It must stay functional, also in the winter months. This is why the lock was refurbished comprehensively in 2001.
