As the 19th century German poet and writer Theodor Fontane once said: “I wandered through the Mark Brandenburg and what I found was richer than what I had hoped for...“. In the 19th century, Brandenburg's "national" poet Theodor Fontane travelled through the “Mark Brandenburg” and brought palaces, gardens and manor houses to the world’s attention. Still today, Potsdam’s royal palaces remain an attraction for thousands of visitors. Equally appealing are the smaller palaces like those of Neuhardenberg, Branitz near Cottbus or Rheinsberg.
