On the trail of the monks at Neuzelle Monastery

Neuzelle Monastery is known for its monastic life and can look back on an eventful history. It has shaped the region for many centuries. In 2018, Cistercian monks came from Heiligenkreuz Abbey in Austria and founded a priory in Neuzelle after a 200-year break. At every turn in the holiday resort of Neuzelle, visitors encounter a past steeped in history as well as an exciting and lively present. The offer ‘On the trail of the monks’ presents barrier-free offers of the monastery.

Our tip: Call the Neuzelle visitor information centre telephone +49 33653 61 02 before your excursion and ask about the current opening times - this will ensure a relaxed trip.

The best of Neuzelle and surrounding

The monastery pond is located in the centre of the Neuzelle resort. There are plenty of places to sit around the small pond to let your gaze wander over the monastery pond and enjoy the beautiful panorama of the monastery grounds. The lively activity of the swans and numerous ducks is great fun.

But it's not just Neuzelle that has interesting things to offer. A few kilometres to the south lies Bomsdorf. For many centuries, the village was the ancestral seat of a noble family of the same name. The manor house gives an idea of the lively life that once took place here many centuries ago. In the neighbouring estate park there are old trees and small ponds that are strung together like a string of pearls. They lend the park a fairytale feel. In the centre of this mystical park is the burial place of the last knightly family of Kuno.
