Painter Carl Blechen also found the subject for his painting “Walzwerk Neustadt Eberswalde” (Neustadt Rolling Mill, Eberswalde) here. The old rolling mill is therefore also called a “Blechenhaus” (sheet metal factory). It is one of the earliest depictions of industry in German art history. Today, metal sculptor Eckhard Herrmann has his studio there, which is open to visitors. In the neighbouring new rolling mill, which was built at the end of the 19th century, the large flywheel of the steam engine has been preserved for visitors to marvel at. There is also a pedal boat obstacle course. A pedal boat ride through the underground works and open pits is recommended.
