“Who travels to Mittenwalde? No-one. And yet it is a place worth seeing that merits a visit within its walls.”

(Theodor Fontane: Wanderungen durch die Mark Brandenburg (“Walks through the Mark Brandenburg region”), volume 4). Today, the town of Mittenwalde attracts many visitors who are interested in particular in its history, the medieval flair of the town and the surrounding recreational landscape. On his walks through what is now the Dahme-Seen region, Fontane discovered many a gem, such as Lake Teupitzer See, about which he wrote: “I am longing to see it again. Is it its beauty alone, or am I drawn by the magic of the silence?” The Fontane hiking trail is a unique combination of landscape, culture and relaxation for every hiking fan.

Length: about 90 kilometres, about 6 days
