Grießen hydroelectric power station was built in the late 1920s and operated tirelessly for almost 40 years before it was shut down in 1967. To safeguard the water supply, an inlet structure on the River Neiße dams the water and routes it along an inlet channel to the power station. Underneath the power station, the water falls about three and a half metres driving a 500-kilowatt Kaplan turbine. A Hitzinger three-phase generator is coupled to this. The electricity generated in this way is fed into the public grid.
