The collection ranges from the idea of motorways around the world, via various projects, through to today’s Autobahn network. The silo tower that is now home to the collection of the motorway maintenance depot in Erkner, was taken into operation in 1942. It is the only grit silo of this construction type that still exists.

  • Autobahngeschichtliche Sammlung in der Autobahnmeisterei Erkner - Denkmal der Rüdersdorfer Brücken, Foto: R. Arndt
The more than seventy years of history of the ‘Autobahn’ are presented through various exhibits, documents and photos. Particularly interesting items from the region include the Rüdersdorf bridges, the ‘frog bridge’ across Alte Löcknitz near Fangschleuse, the ‘Fürstenwalde’ motorway petrol stations and the arches at the Berlin motorway ring.

The collection also pays special tribute to the issue of winter road maintenance. Visitors can admire historic documents, as well as historic road clearing equipment. In the outdoor area, there are exhibits relating to the history of the motorway and its technical services.

Please give us a call to make an appointment for a visit.

The motorway maintenance depot is located on the eastern outskirts of the town, directly on the A10. It is accessible by car and by bus. The nearest bus stop is called Erkner - Autobahn. The European Bicycle Route R1 goes directly past the motorway maintenance depot, when cycling from Grünheide (Mark) towards the town centre of Erkner.
