... follow the gherkin! The “cycling gherkin” points the way along a 260-kilometre cycle path that leads right through the Spreewald. The tour leads through the Unterspreewald and Oberspreewald to Cottbus and into the Peitzer Land, passing picturesque streams and the traditional gherkin and vegetable fields that give the trail its name. Meanwhile the museums in the Spreewald towns and villages bring the history of the region to life, such as the Gurkenmuseum (Gherkin Museum) in the Lehde district of Lübbenau. One particular highlight is a visit to a gherkin pickling plant (pre-booking required) complete with gherkin tasting.
